EDUCATION AT GREAT CHILD

We follow the guidelines on curriculum issued by the EYFS principles. The EYFS specifies requirements for learning and development and for safeguarding children and promoting their welfare. The learning and development requirements cover:

The areas of learning and development which must shape activities and experiences (educational programmes) for children in all early years settings;
The early learning goals that providers must help children work towards (the knowledge, skills and understanding children should have at the end of the academic year in which they turn five); and
Assessment arrangements for measuring progress (and requirements for reporting to parents and/or carers).
Our stimulating curriculum ensures that each child develops to their full potential and, whilst at Nursery, your child will learn many things.

Here are some examples
Early mathematical skills, e.g. counting and shape recognition and early language and literacy skills, e.g. letter sounds and rhymes.
Comparing and exploring texture, weight and scientific properties of natural and man-made materials.
Sharing toys, playing appropriately with a variety of toys and looking after toys and the Nursery environment.
Communicating clearly with their peers and with adults: social skills, for example making friends, respecting other cultures, playing by the rules and acceptable behaviour.
Special Needs Provision

There is a SENCO officer trained to work with the children with special needs. They work closely with local agencies (speech therapist, GPs, psychologist) to ensure the best care and support for the child and his/her family. Children with English as an additional language will also specifically be cared for.
